In an attempt to simplify federal taxes, the IRS has removed several 1040 tax forms for filing 2018 taxes. There is no longer a 1040EZ or 1040A forms. Instead, everyone will file a basic 1040 form with various schedules and worksheets depending on income situations. This will mean a change in the tax documents we request of parents. The IRS details their changes here.
One of our biggest slow downs in the verification process is when parents send us their federal tax returns, but forget to send us their personal state tax return forms (in states with state taxes). We will be adjusting the wording in our requested documents to make this more clear, but it may help for you to be aware of this if you need to go over submitting documentation with your parents.
